watch out for the dragons

I had an interesting experience on Saturday. Had a cable modem service tech over. The trials and tribulations of my internet connection for the last couple of weeks has totally sucked. Could not even get all my e-mails before the connection would drop but that's another story.

The focus here is on the repair technician not on my sucky connection. I am always self conscious whenever anyone comes into the apartment because of all the stuff everywhere. Piles of books and records. For example:

Based on past experience with Time Warner techs i expected a young Hispanic or Black man. Instead I got this white guy, aged 54. He did the expected bit of a quiet double take while walking through the front room to the modem but soon he seemed at ease as we talked tech talk. It was weird to me, particularly when he peered over his glasses in order to read the serial number on the modem, him reminding me of me with my bifocals and doing service tech work. Is that what I look like? I mused. Specific tech talk evolved into discussion of changes in the world in our life time (him 54, me 53). He used to work for Western Electric which was the hardware side of the old Ma Bell, when AT&T was both the long distance and the local phone company. He talked about how the people running these mega corporations always get big bonuses and buy outs when they sell the company down the tubes and the little guy just gets laid off. And then it started to get weird, still mostly true, but weird, like how Warner Bros was started by gangsters and the gangsters still primarily control Time Warner, and like how Guiliani is a gangster and on and on.

I was already starting to think about the plumber character played by Robert De Niro in Terry Gilliam's Brazil when the guy started telling me that if I wanted to really know about how and why the world trade center was successfully attacked I should "Read ALICE IN WONDERLAND AND THE WTC DISASTER by David Icke. Sure al Qaeda and Bin Ladin want to attack the US. But do you really think that some Arab guys could come out of nowhere and learn to fly an airplane like that in a few weeks. Go to and you'll find out what's really going on. Who's really behind the efforts to destroy this country. In the last 40 years the US has lost all resources and ability to manufacture its most needed goods: clothes, steel, food. It is all imported, just like the jobs are exported. All this terrorism stuff is the final step to turn us into sheep, to implant the chips in us and take total control."

So he's gone and I go to and find:

"'Nothing would be what it is, Because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary-wise -what it is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?' - Alice in Wonderland."

OK, charming piece of literature to be sure, but soon I read:

"So, the question: Who benefits? Well, the Illuminati want a world government and army, a world currency and centralised global financial dictatorship and control. They want micro-chipped people and a society based on constant surveillance of all kinds at all times. And they want a frightened, docile, subservient, people who give their power away to the "authorities" who can save them from what they have been manipulated to fear...

"Those responsible are possessed by non-human entities and have no regard for human life any more than most humans have regard for the death and suffering of cattle. The reptilian mind has an undeveloped emotional level and therefore there is no emotional consequence for them no matter to what depths of horror and depravity they may sink...

"The Dragon is nothing like as powerful as they want us to believe it is. Come on, what are we waiting for?
- LET'S GO. Remember: NO FEAR!!"

OK, so a race of dragons (or is Icke just speaking metaphorically, calling them dragons kinda like the bad guys in Iron Man and Agent Nick Fury comics were members of Hydra), the Illuminati is mind controlling certain leaders in order to establish a world facist regime. If only were it so cut and dry. But alas, with all the turmoil and dangerous extremes in the world I guess some people have a need for a simple answer. At least this guy is trying to add up the facts instead of living in denial like too many people in the country.

And that was just the start of my day.
